RJ04 - Describe the inquiry activity you will use for your informal assessment review. Explain what science practice(s) it will teach and how you plan to assess them. Review RI GSES pertaining in Scientific Inquiry.
Inquiry Activity:
Inert lesson in Inertia Description of activity:
The lab design is similar to the one we went through during the fall semester in EDC430. The students were broken up into 3 groups and there were three lab stations set up in the room.
The first lab station's materials included a glass beaker, a plastic "hoop", and a jar of pennies. The students would balance the hoop on the hole of the beaker, and then stack pennies on top of that. Next, once everything was balanced they would pull the hoop out from underneath the pennies swiftly and try to get as many pennies as possible into the beaker.
The second group had glass test tubes and metal ball bearings (marbles). The group would put the ball into the test tube and move the system forward then stop the test tube and observe the motion of the ball.
The third station involved wooden carts with wheels. The students would put different objects on top of the carts and slide the carts into walls and observe the motion of the object on top the cart.
Students are assessment through conversation with teacher while walking around to the all the groups. Observing student to student interaction also is a form of informal assessment.
Students must submit a writeup for homework that asks them to describe what is happening in all three stations.
